G.Y.R.O. Music Publishing & Sync FAQs

General Overview

  • Music publishing administration collects royalties for the songs you write (separate from master/recording royalties).

In an admin deal you keep 100% ownership and control; G.Y.R.O. Music Publishing Administration Service registers your works, issues/admins licenses, and collects worldwide so money isn’t left unclaimed.

  • PROs pay performance royalties (writer share direct to you). Mechanical organisations (e.g., AMCOS/MLC/CMRRA) handle mechanicals. A publishing administrator registers/maintains your catalogue with all these parties globally, fixes data, and consolidates the publisher share so you get every income stream. Without an admin, overseas/long-tail royalties can be delayed 12-18 months or lost.

  • G.Y.R.O. music collects, administers, and pays through royalties earned from your musical compositions (songs), including performance, mechanical, print and sync income. We handle registrations, royalty collection, and licensing administration both locally and globally through our network of collection societies and sub-publishers.

  • Yes, a one-time fee of AUD $99 for Publishing Admin registration.
For valued G.Y.R.O. music artists, we’re offering you FREE admin publishing registration (normally $99), and we’ll help you get your back catalogue registered as part of the setup.

  • Yes. For any Composition Release you deliver to this service, we are your exclusive publishing administrator for that song during its term. This is important because:

    • Societies like APRA/AMCOS only work cleanly when there’s a single administrator. Multiple admins cause duplicate claims, conflicts, and held royalties.

    • One admin ensures your data (IPI, ISWC, ISRC, splits) stays consistent worldwide.

    • Mechanical royalties require a single collector at 100%.

    • Licensing partners need a clear point of contact who can say “yes.”

  • Yes. You can opt in a single track or your full catalogue – it’s completely up to you.

  • No. We would not be able to represent these specific compositions until the term of any pre-existing agreements have ended. This means that if you already have a publishing or publishing administration agreement in place with another entity, we cannot collect the royalties for the composition. In the meantime, we are happy to represent any other of your compositions that are not subject to their agreement.

Terms and Commitment

  • Each Composition Release (or catalogue delivered together) is subject to an initial 12-month Minimum Publishing Period. After that, the term renews automatically every 12 months unless we receive written notice from you.

  • Yes. You can request to remove either individual songs or your entire catalogue by providing at least 30 days’ notice via email (publishing@gyro.music) before the end of your renewal term. If no notice is given, the term renews automatically.

  • Your Composition Release(s) will renew into a new 12-month period under the same terms. You can then give notice for the next cycle.

  • No. Once a song is in its 12-month publishing period, it cannot be removed until the end of that period, except in rare circumstances where G.Y.R.O. removes it.

  • Yes. We may terminate your publishing arrangement at any time with written notice.

  • Email publishing@gyro.music with 30 days’ notice before the end of any 12-month period. We’ll confirm in writing and process the removal accordingly.

Royalty Splits & Payments

  • G.Y.R.O. applies the following schedule:

    • Procured Sync (any value): 30% commission

    • Artist-initiated / referred syncs with G.Y.R.O. support: 20% admin fee

    • Performance royalties: 15%

    • Mechanical royalties: 15% (minimum AU$20 threshold)

    • Print, lyric, karaoke, grand rights: 15%

    • Bespoke compositions: 40%

    • Extra services (e.g. custom licensing help): 10% (minimum AU$100)

  • That’s how their systems work:

    • APRA always shows 50% to the writer and 50% to the publisher (for collection purposes).

    • AMCOS requires one publisher to show at 100% to avoid conflicts.
This doesn’t affect your ownership. You still receive your full agreed share (e.g. 85% to you, 15% to G.Y.R.O.).

  • Royalties are distributed after they are received from third parties like APRA AMCOS, overseas societies, or sync partners. Payment is made once your account reaches at least AU$10. Your publishing royalties will show up in the same place you access your distribution royalties.

  • It typically takes 8-12 months for first payments to flow (12-18 months from some overseas societies) due to global registrations, processing and pay cycles. After that, payments flow quarterly.

  • G.Y.R.O. retains the right to collect royalties for up to 12 months after the end of your publishing term - but only for royalties earned during the active term (this is called the “Collection Period”).

  • Yes, in many territories we can recover unpaid or unmatched royalties for up to 3 years prior to registration.

  • Yes. Your dashboard will include reporting and payment summaries. If you ever need additional detail, you’re welcome to request a statement or audit (limited to once per calendar year).

  • Unless otherwise specified, we collect worldwide. This includes territories where we have direct relationships and through sub-publishing partners.

Pro Membership + Identifiers

  • Yes. You must be affiliated to obtain your (Interested Parties Information) IPI number and to receive your writer’s share directly from your PRO. Keep your PRO membership active and continue submitting live performance returns.

  • Yes. Your CAE / IPI (Interested Parties Information) is the global identifier that links you to your works for accurate payment. You’ll get it when you join your PRO.

  • It depends on which country you are in. In Australia and New Zealand, the PRO is APRA AMCOS. For a full list of other countries click here.

  • Each composition is split into two halves: the writer’s share (yours) and the publisher’s share (administered). With G.Y.R.O. music you keep ownership; we just administer the publisher’s share so everything is registered and collected correctly worldwide. For more info on how royalties flow, check out our blog post here

  • Composition = the underlying song (lyrics/melody). Sound recording (master) = the recorded performance. A single composition can have multiple recordings. Publishing covers the composition, not the master. For more info on how royalties flow, check out our blog post here.

Licensing + Sync

  • Yes. G.Y.R.O. music actively pitches for sync opportunities and manages licensing for your works. If you opt in, your music may also be added to pre-cleared libraries used by networks like Channel Seven for fast-turnaround placements.

  • Yes. We’ll contact you for approval unless you’ve given us written pre-approval for fast-turnaround projects.

  • Not all tracks are sync-friendly. We curate based on tone, lyrics, production quality, brand/lyric safety, and whether we can clear both sides quickly. Having assets ready (WAVs, instrumentals, stems, lyrics, artwork) makes your track more sync-ready.

  • Our team pitches songs where we think they will fit the brief. With our limited capacity, we aren’t able to provide reports on everything that gets pitched for every brief. Our team is focused on ensuring the bulk of their time can be spent seeking and servicing briefs so we can get more wins for the artists in our catalogue aka you. In exceptional circumstances we are able to provide a pitch report but we also encourage you to keep our team updated about any wins and success you are having with your releases that might help our pitch process. We also encourage you to ensure you have your songs sync-ready.

    • WAV + instrumental/TV mix + stems available

    • Correct metadata (ISRC, ISWC, IPI, splits = 100%)

    • No uncleared samples

    • Lyrics suitable for brand/TV use (no conflicts or explicit)

    • One-Stop control (we can clear both master + publishing sides quickly)

With every release you do, please email sync@gyrogroup.co any of the above assets to increase your chances of landing a sync.

  • You can only submit songs you wrote or co-wrote. Co-writes are fine (we collect your share). Samples/interpolations must be cleared first. Public-domain arrangements may qualify if they are genuinely new/unique arrangements.

You can submit covers for master sync representation but you won’t be able to include them in publishing administration.

  • Yes, but only for master sync representation (the sound recording). Covers can’t be included in our publishing administration service, since you don’t own the underlying composition.

  • Yes, but only if every sample/interpolation is properly cleared in writing before submission. Un-cleared samples make a track ineligible for sync or publishing administration.

  • No. For publishing administration, you can only submit songs you wrote or co-wrote. For co-writes, we’ll just collect your share. If you didn’t contribute to the songwriting, you can’t include that work in your publishing administration.

  • Not anymore! G.Y.R.O. 's Sync service was previously under non-exclusive terms. We have recently moved to exclusive terms. Check out the details
